The City of Greer is throwing a year-long birthday party to celebrate its sesquicentennial, and everyone is invited (no gifts required)! Greer150 is a collaborative initiative between the city and the Greer Heritage Museum to bring together Greer’s diverse community, honor its past, and create a shared vision for the future.
Greer began as a railroad stop between Greenville and Spartanburg. A vibrant community quickly formed around what’s now known as The Historic Greer Depot. On March 25, 1876, 15 men voted to officially incorporate the town of Greer’s (later shortened to Greer).
In honor of Greer’s 150th birthday, the Greer Heritage Museum got a major upgrade that includes all new exhibits that bring the city’s history to life. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The gift shop is packed with Greer150 merch, but you can also order online.
On Saturday, March 21, the museum’s director will share dramatic stories about the city’s tumultuous early days at The Historic Greer Depot at Greer150: Founding of Greer.
Greer150: The Big Bash will take over the city’s historic downtown known as Greer Station on Saturday, March 28 from 4 to 9 p.m. The free event will include music, a live radio show, and demonstrations of the some of the trades that built Greer. The Big Bash’s grand finale will be a spectacular laser show along the brick-lined Trade Street.
While you’re in town for the Greer150 Big Bash, you can make a stop at the Greer Farmers Market in Greer City Park. The market always features more than 40 local farmers, makers, and bakers as well as live music and food trucks. The March 29 market will include a celebration of garden birds. Greenville County Bird Club will host a bird walk at noon, kids can make their own pinecone bird feeders, and some of the market vendors will be selling bird-related products. This special winter market is on Sunday, March 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Your March sesquicentennial stop in Greer could also include a day on the lush fairways of the city’s public, 18-hole golf course. Greer Golf is one of South Carolina’s premier municipal courses, and its clubhouse restaurant, White Wine & Butter made it on USA Today’s 2026 Restaurants of the Year list.
