As the area’s largest and most comprehensive history museum, this Smithsonian Affiliate provides visitors with a unique introduction to the rich 300-year narrative of Upcountry South Carolina. Award-winning exhibitions highlight its frontier beginnings and notable heydays as textile capital of the world, as well as transformative events following World War II and the Civil Rights Movement. Just a short walk from downtown Greenville, UHM is the perfect place to explore the Upcountry’s evolutionary story of discovery, revitalization, charm, renewal, and cultural distinctiveness.
