The Ellicott Rock Wilderness straddles the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River and is the only wilderness area in three states and includes over 9,000 acres. The area has dense stands of white pine and hemlock in the lower coves and streams with hardwoods on the slopes. Deer, squirrels, grouse, and wild turkeys are common sights, slong with the elusive black bear. Remains of old moonshine stills can be seen. The terrain is rugged and lies just south of the area that receives the highest rainfall in the eastern US.

Directions: Various access points exist. Several popular points are: Burrell’s Ford Road off Highway 107; the Chattooga Picnic Area (east fork of the Chattooga); and the Foothills Trail off Highway 107. Maps are sold at the ranger station.
