Looking to hop on the Chef Ambassador Trail? The best part is that there isn’t a designated starting point or finish line. Begin wherever you’d like and discover where the trail takes you!
Our team at Upcountry SC kicked off our Chef Ambassador Trail adventure at House 509 Bistro & Wine Bar, home to 2026 Chef Ambassador Guichard Ulysse, better known as “Chef G.” From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the warm hospitality, inviting atmosphere, exceptional wine knowledge, and, most importantly, the incredible food.
We started our meal with the Caprese Baked Brie and the Jerk Scallops. The rich, gooey baked brie, finished with a drizzle of balsamic glaze, quickly became a table favorite. Chef G is known for highlighting farm-fresh ingredients, working closely with local farmers and fishermen to bring the freshest flavors to every dish. The freshness of the scallops was unmistakable. They were another standout appetizer that everyone enjoyed.

Then it was time for the main event: the entrées. Our server, Scott, expertly guided us through the wine list, recommending thoughtful pairings that perfectly complemented each dish.
One of House 509 Bistro’s signature dining experiences is its entrée flights, which allow guests to sample a variety of Chef G’s specialties and enjoy different proteins in one meal. Everyone at our table agreed that the flights were the perfect way to experience the creativity and range of Chef G’s cuisine.

In addition to its signature menu, House 509 Bistro offers weekly specials and a rotating “From the Farm” menu, showcasing the freshest seasonal ingredients and supporting local producers. It’s a delicious way to experience something new with every visit.
Of course, no meal is complete without dessert. The tempting dessert menu made choosing just one treat a challenge, but the Apple Blossom stole the show. This personal apple pie, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and finished with cinnamon and caramel, was the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable meal.
