Christmas in Gaffney

In a year highlighted by change and adaptation, the City of Gaffney is keeping the annual Christmas festivities alive in 2020 by offering an alternate, safe, socially-distanced plan to celebrate the holiday season while following CDC guidelines.

Prior to December 4th, the City of Gaffney will kick off the season with a virtual stream of the annual Mayor’s Christmas tree lighting. Be sure to follow Gaffney SC Events on Facebook for updates and announcements.

The popular nighttime Christmas parade will be switched to the first-ever Gaffney Drive-Thru Christmas Parade. Realizing this event always attracts a large number of people, city staff is making plans to provide a safe environment for the festivities.

On Friday, December 4th from 6pm-7:30pm, parade entries and participants will remain stationary on Limestone Street while the spectators “drive-thru” and enjoy the parade from the safety of their respective vehicles. This revised format will comply with the recommended state guidelines and restrictions.

Parade spectators will enter the parade route from the intersection of Corry Street and Limestone Street. All residents in the Historic Residential District are encouraged to light up the night by lighting up your homes and yards with luminaries, lights, yard scenes, etc. The route will travel North on Limestone
Street through historic downtown Gaffney. Parking lots will be open to allow for those interested to visit downtown businesses and restaurants.

WZZQ will host its 4th annual Ugly Sweater Contest for a chance to win $100 cash money! Judging will be at the WZZQ trailer, located beside the Michael Gaffney Log Home, at 8pm.

Festivities will continue at Henry L. Jolly Park, 102 Railroad Avenue. Santa Claus will be available from 6pm-9pm for socially distanced photo opportunities. Don’t forget to bring those letters to Santa with you to the park, where you will be able to personally drop them in Santa’s mailbox for him to take back
to the North Pole. Be sure to visit www.getintogaffney.com for a free letter template to print out.
Letters can be mailed from this special mailbox through December 23rd.
